After our great Oscar live-blog last year, I thought I would post up this years recently released nominations list.

This year, they decided to go with 10 "Best Picture" nominations:

"Avatar"
"The Blind Side"
"District 9"
"An Education"
"The Hurt Locker"
"Inglourious Basterds"
"Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire"
"A Serious Man"
"Up"
"Up in the Air"

I have heard some criticism of the expanded nomination list, and I would agree with a bit of it. Avatar and District 9 were great movies, but I am not entirely sure they are Best Picture worthy. And I do not know about An Education and The Blind Side because I have not seen them. (nor have I seen Precious or A Serious Man, but from what I hear they may have made it there anyway) On the other hand, the list that finally allows animated films like Up to get recognized as worthy of a Best Picture Oscar can't be all bad. Plus the fantastic Hurt Locker gets it's due. And now its a real race! Ok, so maybe I like it...
