"Conflict diamonds" have drawn a lot of public attention, in large part because of the movie "Blood Diamond." While these remain a problem, gold mining in Africa has been less covered, even though it shares many of the problems with blood diamonds. Vanguard (a show on CurrentTV) looked into Blood Bling and the gold that goes into making all that bling, much of which is mined as part of the civil war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Often the same children who have been waging the war for various internationally financed factions are now working these mines in horrible conditions, which this journalist checked out himself.
This isn't a long video, so you should definitely watch it.
